Sapphire Dentistry believes routine visits to your dentist is a very important step in your oral health however we are also aware that some of us have a genuine fear of the dentist. This “dental phobia” is not uncommon and prevents many people from visiting the dentist for routine care. If you are part of the 30% of the population that avoids the dentist due to fear, don’t worry as we can help with sedation dentistry. Don’t neglect your oral health because of this phobia, receive your recommended routine care and avoid serious health problems down the road as we can administer a sedative during your treatment, to calm the nerves.
At Sapphire Dentistry, we provide sedation for those who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. We will help to set you at ease by providing you with a sedative to help relieve your anxiety and provide you with a calm and relaxing sensation.
Receiving sedation during dental treatments is often referred to as sleep dentistry. This is a bit misleading however as the actual term for this procedure is oral sedation dentistry. The traditional methods of receiving sedation during the dental procedure are almost obsolete. Today, the most common method for administering the sedative is oral. In some cases, it may be necessary to administer it intravenously or through inhalation. Patients that have a low threshold for pain may be a good candidate for an alternative to the oral sedative. In either case, receiving any method of sedation in the dentist office is safe and effective. Keep in mind that you will still receive local anesthetics after your sedation.
